Currently, the Coast Guard Reserve offers the Selected Reserve Direct Commission (SRDC) Program.
The SRDC Program offers a means for you to join the Coast Guard Reserve as an officer and serve part-time in the SRDC Program. As a Reserve officer, you can continue your civilian employment while serving on military duty an average of two days a month and two weeks a year.
If you're considering joining the SRDC Program, here are some things you should consider first: you must make a four-year commitment to the Coast Guard. If you have prior service, your years of service will transfer, however, your rank may not.
To apply for a SRDC Direct Commission appointment, you must meet all eligibility requirements, complete a detailed application package, pass a personal interview, and be selected by a Coast Guard Recruiting Command selection panel. Basic requirements are listed below.
Age: Between 21 and 36 years old.
(Cannot have reached your 37th birthday as of 30 September of the year you apply)
Education: Baccalaureate or higher degree, or if you are currently an E5 in the Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserves, 60 semester hours at a degree-granting college or university. (Cumulative GPA 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.)

Applicants with Prior Service: Must have less than 10 years of active duty in another service and less than 14 years of previous military service (active or reserve) outside the Coast Guard which applies toward retirement.
