Right now, you're probably filled with all kinds of emotions. Pride. Concern. Delight. Anxiety. And that's understandable. After all, your child is considering joining the Coast Guard. And while we can't ease all your worries and concerns, we can let you know what we're all about, what your son or daughter will experience in the Coast Guard, and what the answers are to some of your questions.
One thing we will tell you right off the bat, you deserve to be proud of your child. In joining the Coast Guard, he or she will become part of our organization whose main concern is the safety of this country. We teach honor, respect and devotion to duty. Our Coast Guard men and women save lives, protect waters and guard our borders. Their job and how they will face each mission are truly admirable.
PAY & BENEFITS
We offer all active duty and reserve Coast Guard men and women a competitive salary, benefits that are hard for young people to come by in the civilian world like free medical, dental and eye care; housing; meal allowances; and more. Plus, young people coming to the Coast Guard will have the chance to make a difference.
WHERE DO WE SERVE?
We serve anywhere in the world where we are needed including the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. However, most Coast Guard jobs are located here in the United States and Puerto Rico. Reservists usually serve close to home; however, some do get deployed where needed, when necessary.
We're not going to sugarcoat this; basic training is tough. It's eight weeks of physical and mental challenges. We want to shape your child into a fully prepared Coast Guard man or women who can take charge and execute during the most harrowing situations. When your son or daughter graduates, he or she will be a stronger person, and you'll be a prouder parent.
As a parent, you most likely will have many questions about what your child will encounter and experience as an active duty or reserve Coast Guard member. In this section, you'll find answers to your questions regarding enlistment options, basic training, job skills learned and benefits. You'll also gain a better understanding of the exciting opportunities that await your child in the Coast Guard.
