We have several officer programs available including the college student pre-commissioning initiative (CSPI), officer candidate school (OCS), direct commission officer programs (DCO), selected reserve direct commission program (SRDC), and the Coast Guard Academy (CGA).


Coast Guard Academy

We offer you an integrated life experience that emphasizes academics, physical fitness, character and leadership. After graduation, you'll go directly to positions of leadership.

Maritime Academy Graduate (MARGRAD)

Maritime Academy Graduates have education and training that enhances the Coast Guard's ability to carry out its operational missions. Individuals selected will serve as a Coast Guard Reserve officer on full-time active-duty.

Officer Candidate School (OCS)

OCS is a rigorous course of instruction that prepares candidates to serve effectively as officers in the Coast Guard. OCS also provides a wide range of highly technical information necessary for performing the duties of a Coast Guard officer.

Wilks Flight Initiative (WIFI)

You'll get the opportunity to become a Coast Guard aviator through this program. PLEASE NOTE: The Wilks Flight Initiative has replaced BLUE 21. Pertinent information will be forthcoming.

Health Profession Programs

Clinical and Rehabilitation Therapist

As a Commissioned Corps clinical and rehabilitation therapist officer detailed to the Coast Guard, specializing in physical therapy, you will treat patients at the Coast Guard accession sites (Training Center Cape May and Coast Guard Academy).

Dental Officer

Get the dental career you want. As a dental officer in the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) commissioned corps detailed to the Coast Guard, you can focus on clinical practice without the overhead and other burdens of maintaining a business.

Environmental Health

Environmental health officers in the Commissioned Corps detailed to the Coast Guard ensure public health and safety in a variety of domestic roles. For environmental health officers, work areas are diverse and numerous.

Health Services

Health services officers in the commissioned corps detailed to the Coast Guard represent many disciplines, including the biological, physical, environmental, and social sciences; medical technology; health care administration; and other public health specialties such as physician assistant.

Direct Commission Programs

Direct Commission Aviator (DCA)

There's no doubt about it, this is our "poster" job. Coast Guard aviators are involved in almost every mission including drug interdiction, immigration, search and rescue, marine environmental protection, marine safety, and fisheries and general federal laws applicable in the maritime environment.

Direct Commission Engineer (DCE)

The direct commission engineer (DCE) program provides engineers and technologists with leadership opportunities in program management; implementing systems that enable and support Coast Guard missions.

Direct Commission Intelligence Officer (DCIO)

Since 2001, when the Coast Guard became a member of Homeland Security and the U.S. Intelligence Community, the modern Coast Guard Intelligence Program has cultivated extensive relationships and partnerships with other elements of the national intelligence community to provide timely, tailored support in a wide range of Coast Guard and national missions.

Direct Commission Lawyer (DCL)

Are you a Licensed Attorney? A third-year law student? If you are, you may want to be part of the Coast Guard Team as a Coast Guard judge advocate through the Coast Guard direct commission lawyer program.

Direct Commission Physician Assistant (DCPA) Program

DCPAs are required to complete a three to five week resident course, depending on their past military experience. For completely new personnel, the five-week course includes a rigorous military indoctrination period during which trainees will be expected to meet strict standards of conduct, uniform appearance and military bearing.

Direct Commission Selected School (DCSS) Program

College graduates who have been exposed to military training through armed services reserve officer training corps (ROTC) programs, equivalent regimented programs, or other federal military academies, while earning an undergraduate degree may be commissioned in the Coast Guard.

Prior Trained Military Officer (PTMO)

Current or former military officers with training or degrees in critically needed areas have the opportunity to apply for a direct commission in the Coast Guard.
