The U.S. Coast Guard is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to all information submitted by you on this website, and it explains the type of information we may collect and how we may use it.

Information Collection and Use

For site management, visitor information is collected for statistical purposes. This government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for purposes such as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic that identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.

Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.

The information requested on this Web site is collected in accordance with Section 503 of Title 10, United States Code, and may only be used to identify and process individuals interested in applying for enlistment or commission in the United States Coast Guard or Coast Guard Reserve.

Disclosure is voluntary. Declining to provide the information may result in not being contacted by a recruiter, although you may receive recruiting materials in the future. Any information provided is protected from unauthorized disclosure by the Privacy Act of 1974.

Coast Guard Chat

The Coast Guard Chat site is unsecure and any information you transmit/exchange can possibly be viewed by others. Sensitive information disclosed in this forum is at the risk of the user. Information discussed during Coast Guard Live Chat cannot be disclosed by a Coast Guard representative. The United States Coast Guard assumes no liability for information compromised due to user disclosure in this forum. Please maintain professionalism while on this Coast Guard Chat service. If you make any threats, to yourself or others, the proper authorities will be notified.

Participation in the Coast Guard Chat and any other communication with gocoastguard.com is governed by the following guidelines to protect your privacy and security:

Any information and/or personal data you supply via Contact a Recruiter, Coast Guard Chat, or email is totally voluntary. You have no obligation to provide information of any type.

Information the Coast Guard collects about you from Go Coast Guard Chat sessions or email messages will be used for the purpose of recruiting enlisted personnel and officers into the U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. Authority for gathering information is granted under Title 10, United States Code, Section 503.

If you provide any personal history, medical history, contact data or any other information, the U.S. Coast Guard is bound by federal law to use the information for recruiting purposes only. Federal law further states that the United States Coast Guard will not release any information offered by you to any person or organization outside the Department of Defense.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve reserve the right to record all activity that takes place in Coast Guard Chat. The raw information obtained may be used by the Coast Guard to provide information services to the public. Raw data logs are used exclusively for this effort and will be destroyed on a regular basis in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.

The U.S. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is a law ensuring public access to U.S. government records. This right of access is ultimately enforceable in federal court.

GoCoastGuard.com does not directly store data about it's visitors. It does collect data from Users.

It collects data directly from Users which is used for recruitment and analytical purposes. It collects data indirectly via third-party services which is used for marketing and statistical purposes. 

Information submitted to our Apply Now form is encrypted and passed on to the Coast Guard Human Resources application for recruitment purpose. It is never stored on GoCoastGuard.com.

Information submitted to our Chat Application is encrypted and stored at LivePerson.com servers. That information is transfered to the Coast Guard Human Resources application and is also used for recruitment purposes. It is never stored on GoCoastGuard.com. The LivePerson Privacy Policy is located at https://www.liveperson.com/policies/privacy.

Information submitted to our Email Signup form is stored at Marketo.com. This information is used for the purpose of recruitment and driving awareness about the Coast Guard mission via Coast Guard email newsletters. The Marketo Privacy Policy is located at https://documents.marketo.com/legal/privacy.

In addition to directly collecting user information, we employ the following third-party web measurement tools:

Google Analytics captures statistical information regarding web traffic. This information is used to understand overall user usage of our website, such as number of visits per month, or the amount of time that users spend on our site. Integral Ad Science https://integralads.com/ provides analytical information regarding our Marketing Efforts. The Integral Ad Science Privacy Policy is located at https://integralads.com/privacy-policy.

The above third-party analytics providers use multi-session cookies and 1 pixel clear gifs to track user behavior. However, these technologies do not receive personally identifiable information through these cookies.

GoCoastGuard.com uses Tier 1, single session cookies to enable user logins for administrators. Third-party analytical services (listed below) user Tier 2, persistant session cookies to gether general information as user browses the internet. Cookies are 1 pixel transparent gifs are the primary technology used to track this behavior.

Information submitted via Apply Now and Chat Now forms will not be disclosed outside of the Coast Guard. Analytical Information gathered automatically by third-party services will be shared with the Coast Guard's advertising agency, LMD.  

We have appropriate technical and organizational security measures in place to help protect the personal information that is submitted to us voluntarily through our web site or collected through interactions with our services. However, no system can be completely secure, and we make no guarantees as to the safety or security of any information transmitted to or from this site or through our services.

Information submitted directly to GoCoastGuard.com via Chat Now and Apply Now forms is stored indefinitely at the Coast Guard Human Resources application. Information that is collected by third-party services is stored according to the Privacy Policy of that service. 

GoCoastGuard.com web measurement and/or customization technology is enabled by default so that Chat Technology can be used to facilitate recruitment. Also, the measurement and technology is is enabled by default so that Coast Guard marketing and advertisement goals can be reached.
